Mostly building chicken coops is an attempt to protect our chickens and stop predatory animals from killing or stealing our chickens. You can also put doors, hatches and windows in the right place to allow for better ventilation and this keeps your chickens much healthier and happier in the long term. Having the right plan from the start will also keep out the weather and protect your chickens from drafts.
You can plan rain deflectors as well to make sure the majority fo the rain falls on the upper surface off to the sides and prevent it finding it’s way to the nesting boxes.
Raising your coop from ground level will help to protect chickens from predators , keep cold and damp at bay from the soil and most important..make your egg collection an easy task instead of a back breaking one.
Having a plan to build a chicken coop makes sure your chicken coop is built, to make cleaning easier, maintenance easier and socializing your chickens or isolating them less of a problem.
Why isolate them you might ask.Sometimes you may have a chicken who has hurt herself or is not feeling well you may want to isolate her for a few does until she feels better. Having a main door and hatch for easy access or segmenting can make it all so much easier.
Having chicken coop built to a plan makes a safer, happier and healthy environment for you chickens reduce fights overcrowding and predatory attacks.
